Portland Pop Duo Wonderlust to release debut EP July 14th.
“Nothing is real / Everything’s free” croon Leo London and Stacey Katlain on the opening track of their eponymous EP in a nod to their shared thirst for wonder and chaos.
The Wonderlust EP was written and recorded during the winter months of 2023 in garages, basements and the occasional recording studio when the two could get their money right.
Though the song’s lyrics capture the bitterness of winter (Katlain: “Swept up a broken mug and got myself dressed / The dogs laying on me. I think we’re both depressed”), there is an underlying optimism for the dog days of summer to come (London: “My heart explodes and I hardly feel the pain / I’m a shot away from getting myself back into the game”).
London and Katlain are currently recording their first full-length record in pursuit of what wonder remains in a turbulent world, referring to themselves somewhat ironically but surely earnestly as the poets of pop. We shall see.
